Between There and Here is the latest series from Jill Cole’s ongoing work on British military land. As part of a national conservation programme, birds are caught in fine nets erected between poles on a nature reserve within an army garrison in North Yorkshire. After capture the birds are placed into small handmade bags awaiting identification, ringing and release. Taken from flight, their stillness is broken only by occasional and erratic movement, their fragility and delicate nature reflected in the bags themselves. The series is drawn from a larger body of work which continues to explore the interrelationship between conflict, beauty and renewal.
